Women of Essence is a public charity/501c3 organization committed to increasing local attention to the devastating impact of breast cancer in the African American community. Our primary objectives are to provide a strong support base, and an emotional safe haven for breast cancer survivors. We provide a place where survivors can come to express their fears, frustrations and concerns related to the aftermaths of cancer. Women of Essence supports and teaches each member to take responsibility for their own health, so that they can reclaim a sense of control in their lives.

 

Our organization is a small, volunteer-driven, nonprofit, community-based organization. We are breast cancer survivors who know firsthand how frightening breast cancer can be. We also know how to overcome the many barriers that prevent women from seeking breast cancer early detection services. Women of Essence want to share our knowledge, experiences, services and access to care and support through our monthly support group meeting.
