EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT:
Women of Essence supports the emotional and psychological needs of the community with Monthly Support Group Meetings where members come together and discuss issues relating to their own personal experiences and illnesses. Through the group discussion, members listen to the concerns of others and offer advice and encouragement when needed. A guest speaker at the monthly meetings provides the group with pertinent information on a wide range of topics. Information on how to contact medical providers is also available. Our services are free of charge and available to anyone.
RESOURCES FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH:
Women of Essence, through various contacts and organizations, receives information on Medical Research studies and passes that information on to those who are interested.
COMMUNITY CANCER EDUCATION AND AWARENESS’ PROGRAMS:
Throughout the year, the members of Women of Essence volunteer and conduct Health Fairs in the community. We also participate in Breast Cancer “Walks and Runs”
as they come up during the year. Some of our members go to different schools in the area passing out literature and providing young Ladies with information on doing monthly Breast Self Examinations.
Members of the group volunteer to speak at different functions when
request are made from the community.
IN-HOME SISTER-TO-SISTER SUPPORT:
For women who have the need for one-on-one contact, group members volunteer to make home visits and assist with what needs to be done including: assisting with household chores, accompanying members on doctors visits, transportation to and from treatment, or providing a shoulder to cry on, and open ears to listen to someone’s problems. Breast cancer survivors and other support members are always available to assist newly diagnosed cancer patients with any concerns that they may have.
